An excerpt question from my NP boards practice exam today.

Q: What is the purpose of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?

A. Level the playing field with respect to employment and other opportunities for disabled persons.

B. Create a federal entitlement program for AIDS patients.

C. Guarantee wheelchair access to every residential and commercial building.

D. Authorize interpreters for deaf employees at all private businesses.

Now, even though I was leaning towards A, I choose C on principle. Here was their response.

“Wrong. Correct answer A. The ADA cannot impose wheelchair ramp requirements on every building owner in America. Access ramps and interpreters may be required as a “reasonable accommodation” to qualified people in certain defined circumstances. No across-the-board mandate exists for these types of aid to the handicapped population.”
